Brasselsberg is a young garden city. It is too young to have a cemetery of its own, and buses have served it since its tram branch closed in 1965. Konrad-Adenauer-Straße, its main road, runs south to the Kassel-Bad Wilhelmshöhe junction of the A 44, handy for drivers.
The Habichtswald forest begins at the edge of the streets, where walkers set off for the Bismarck Tower and the old mine trails.

What are the main landmarks in Brasselsberg?
The Kassel Bismarck Tower, built in 1904, stands in the forest on top of the Brasselsberg. The Protestant Emmauskirche, built from 1952, stands in the middle of the district. Mining left its own traces.
Old adit mouths and spoil heaps lie in the woods, and the Zeche-Marie-Weg ends at the former mine overseer's house. The Hessian state fire brigade school lies on the district's eastern edge.
What is the history of Brasselsberg?
The settlement grew in the early 20th century as a garden city named after the hill and was at first part of Nordshausen; until 1936 it was called Nordshausen-Siedlung am Brasselsberg, and locals still say they live 'am Brasselsberg'. Lignite was mined underground here for centuries, above all at the Zeche Marie north of the Bilsteinklippen, worked from 1868 to 1966. A branch of the Herkulesbahn reached the district from 1911 until 1965.
