Wilmersdorf's Auenkirche and the Schoeler-Schlösschen stand on the Wilhelmsaue, the old village core. Ossip Klarwein and Fritz Höger built the Kirche am Hohenzollernplatz in 1933, and the Russian Orthodox Cathedral of the Resurrection followed in 1938. The Wilmersdorfer Moschee is Germany's oldest mosque.

What is the history of Wilmersdorf?

Wilmersdorf was probably founded after 1220, when the Ascanian margraves brought settlers into the Mark Brandenburg. It was first recorded in 1293. Its settlers farmed and fished the Wilmersdorfer See, drained in 1915; the Volkspark Wilmersdorf replaced it.

In the mid-19th century speculators and the Ringbahn bought the big farmers' fields. The sellers became the Millionenbauern. From 1870 Johann Anton Wilhelm von Carstenn laid out his street plan on the old manor land, and in 1920 Wilmersdorf joined Greater Berlin.
