Döhren's centre is the Fiedelerplatz. A quarter of Gründerzeit houses lies near it, and a weekly market and a farmers' market are held on the square. A second centre, with shops, public offices and bus and rail lines, lies around the crossing of the Hildesheimer Straße, Peiner Straße and Abelmannstraße.
In summer the bathing lakes in the Leine meadows, the Dreiecksteich among them, draw thousands of people.

About Döhren
What are the main landmarks in Döhren?
In Döhren, the 14th-century tower of the St.-Petri-Kirche is one of the oldest structures. The church itself was badly damaged in the Second World War and rebuilt as a Bartning emergency church. Döhren also has the Auferstehungskirche and the Catholic St. Bernward.
On the site of the old wool-scouring works by the Leine, the clock tower at the main gate and the Wolle-Widder, a ram monument, survive. The street An der Wollebahn recalls the works' own railway.
What is the history of Döhren?
Döhren first appears in 983, as Thurnithi. On 22 June 1671 Duke Georg of Lüneburg gave it, with Laatzen and Wülfel, to Duke Johann Friedrich of Calenberg for his help in taking Braunschweig. Farms and a smithy lasted into the 1960s, as did two cinemas: the Europapalast, long the largest in Hannover, and the tiny Schauburg, whose shows started 15 minutes later because the newsreel reels were cycled over from the Europapalast.
Housing replaced the wool works, once the second-largest in Germany, in the 1980s.

Döhren borders the Maschsee and the southern edge of the Eilenriede to the north, with the meadows of the Leine to the west.
