Lüne has no hotel quarter of its own. The district is convent ground: Kloster Lüne closes off one side of Am Domänenhof, and the lanes running off it hold houses rather than guesthouses. Beds are in Lüneburg's old town instead, south-west of here, and Lüner Weg joins the two on foot.

What are the main landmarks in Lüne?
Lüne is arranged around Kloster Lüne, whose gate stands at the head of Am Domänenhof. The Klosterkirche St. Bartholomäi is brick-built and vaulted, and it serves the Lüne parish as well as the convent behind it. In the same yard the Textilmuseum has shown white embroidery, altar cloths and woven hangings since 1995, the oldest of them worked around 1250.
Lüner Weg comes in from the town. Bockelmannstraße carries the lime avenue that walkers use for the last stretch to the gate.
What is the history of Lüne?
Lüne takes its name from the convent rather than the other way round: Kloster Lüne was founded in 1172, and the parish and the old Gemeinde Lüne were named after it. Fire gutted it in 1372. The rebuilding went up in brick, and the Bursfelde reform of 1481 installed Sophia von Bodendike as prioress and opened a second great age of embroidery here.
On 26 April 1528 the convent heard its first service sung in German. Lüne remained a village in its own right until 1 April 1943, when Lüneburg took it in.
