Where to stay in Bergrath
How the choice of base plays out on the ground.
Bergrath is a residential quarter, so the centre of Eschweiler makes the better base. Buses tie the district to the Eschweiler Bushof, and the Eschweiler Hauptbahnhof is the nearest main station, which keeps the church of St. Antonius an easy detour from a room in town. Book centrally.
From there the rest of Nordrhein-Westfalen is closer to hand as well.

About Bergrath
What are the main landmarks in Bergrath?
St. Antonius is the landmark on Bergrath's record. The parish church went up in 1905 and 1906, while the small Antonius chapel of 1670 on the Antoniusstraße is the oldest church building in the district. That is the whole list.
Anyone collecting churches around Eschweiler can take in both on a single short walk.
What is the history of Bergrath?
The Church of Cologne probably founded Bergrath around 830, together with Volkenrath and Hastenrath. Recorded as Berchingrode in 1250, it belonged with Röhe and Röthgen to the Amt Eschweiler no later than the sixteenth century. Roman finds followed.
A Roman farmhouse was dug out beside the spoil heaps of the Nothberg mine in the winter of 1904 into 1905, decades after a railway line had cut the village in two.
