How the choice of base plays out on the ground.

The A 2 splits Röllinghausen in two. South of the motorway it is purely residential. North of it, a business and industrial area carries on eastward from the similar east of Hillerheide.

Vestische Straßenbahnen runs VRR bus lines 201, 210, 234, 236, and 237, and the NE1, through the district, and the Emscher runs along the southern edge of the housing.

About Röllinghausen

What are the main landmarks in Röllinghausen?

Only one building on Recklinghausen's list of monuments stands in Röllinghausen: the farmhouse at Röllinghäuser Straße 193. The Herz-Jesu-Kirche stands in the north of the residential part, directly south of the cemetery, and its parish now belongs to St. Antonius, which also takes in Süd and König Ludwig. The Marienkapelle dates from 1903.

Built by the Röllinghausen chapel society, it stands at the corner of Ortlohstraße and Zechenstraße.

What is the history of Röllinghausen?

Röllinghausen was a farming hamlet, a Bauerschaft, of the rural parish of Recklinghausen. Its fields lay east of the Alte Grenzstraße, and the Loh woodland was common land shared with Berghausen, Suderwich, and Essel. Shafts 1, 2, and 6 of the König Ludwig colliery were sunk in its west but gave their name to a new district, König Ludwig, and Röllinghausen's western limit moved back to the colliery railway and Reginastraße.

Its parish was founded in 1923.

Where is Röllinghausen?

Röllinghausen lies in the south-east of Recklinghausen, south-east of the town centre. The Emscher flows along its southern edge, with the Rhine-Herne Canal a little further south, and the A 2 runs along its northern edge. The Alte Grenzstraße passes to the west.

Röllinghäuser Straße and Merveldstraße, coming in from Suderwich, together form the L 889.
