Where to stay in Speckhorn
How the choice of base plays out on the ground.
A stay here is a rural one. The core village keeps its dörflich character, while the outlying hamlets of Beising to the west and Börste to the southeast are scattered across farmland. Bus line 220 of the Vestische Straßenbahnen is the link to the centre of Recklinghausen, and there is no lodging trade of its own.
About Speckhorn
What are the main landmarks in Speckhorn?
Heilige Familie, the Roman Catholic church of the Diocese of Münster, serves the hamlet, and the monument list adds the Hof Höwing farmstead out at Beising together with the timber-framed house at Christophstraße 21. That is the whole of it. The Windpark Recklinghausen rises over Speckhorn and the neighbouring Nordviertel, run by SL Naturenergie.
What is the history of Speckhorn?
Speckhorn belonged to the rural commune of Recklinghausen-Land, which was dissolved on 1 April 1926. The hamlet has been part of the city ever since. Its old ground reached further than the modern boundary does: the southern half of the neighbouring Bauerschaft Siepen, down to the Silvertbach, was historically Speckhorn, and the Mühlenstraße now counted to Sinsen-Lenkerbeck in Marl lies on Speckhorn land as well.
Where is Speckhorn?
The hamlet sits at the meeting of three municipalities, with Oer-Erkenschwick to the northeast and Marl to the northwest. The Honermann-Siedlung continues it northward. A small share of the Die Burg nature reserve falls inside Speckhorn, though most of it lies on Marl ground.
