It is a street village and reads as one. The Hauptstraße runs half way up the slope above the stream meadow with farmsteads packed along both sides, and the westerly Oberdorf sits a little higher than the Unterdorf on the Untere Hauptstraße. Three churches dominate the view.
The old Catholic church now used as a cemetery chapel and the Protestant Gustav-Adolf-Kirche stand over the Oberdorf, and the Catholic Heilig-Kreuz-Kirche on the Goldberg above the middle of the village is visible from a long way off. Worms itself is a short run northeast.

What are the main landmarks in Horchheim?
One road here is older than Rome. The Eisenberger Straße ran along the edge of the Riedel above the village in pre-Roman times as a branch of the long route from the Rhine into Gaul, the Worms to Kaiserslautern and Metz road taking a fork up the Eisbach valley through Eisenberg. It lost its importance in the Middle Ages.
What carries the traffic now is the L 395, which comes in from Worms as the Wormser Straße, runs through as the Untere and Obere Hauptstraße and leaves west toward Worms-Heppenheim. Two newer estates sit east of the village. The Nikolaus-Ehlen-Siedlung and the Zollhaussiedlung belong administratively to Horchheim although they stand on Worms land rather than on Horchheim's own, and they are what turned a line of houses into something closer to a cluster.
What is the history of Horchheim?
The oldest map is from 1710. It shows only a few properties on the side lanes, the village street bending before the Fronberg at the western end and running up through the Hohl, now the Wilhelm-Röpcke-Straße, to the Eisenberger Straße on the height. The cut through the Fronberg came later.
It was made in 1838 and 1839, and from the 18th century onward the built-up ground pushed steadily along the Hauptstraße toward Worms. Then the side lanes filled in. From the 19th century the cross lanes were built up first and the lanes parallel to the Hauptstraße after them, turning a street village slowly into a clustered one.
Worms took it in 1942. Two closed estates went up at the eastern end from the middle of the 20th century as newcomers arrived, the Nikolaus-Ehlen-Siedlung and the Zollhaussiedlung, and the village has read as a Worms suburb since.
Where is Horchheim?
Horchheim lies on the north side of the Eisbach valley where the stream leaves the Rhenish Hessian hill country for the Rhine plain, strung about 1800 metres along the south slope of the Hohensülzener Riedel, whose loess soils are the fertile ground and whose edges carry poorer sand and gravel.
