Worms is a short walk east. Pfiffligheim adjoins the western inner city, with the Pfrimm and the Karl-Bittel-Park along its northern edge and the Rheinhessenbahn closing it to the south. The Lutherbaum is the thing to see.
Its trunk is still tended as a monument, all that is left of an elm that stood over thirty metres tall and nine across. Kerb week fills the last weekend of July.

What are the main landmarks in Pfiffligheim?
The oldest thing standing is a gate. A Gothic portal with a man-gate carries the year 1425 in its apex and once led to the old cemetery, which was closed in 1863, and it stands in the street Am Kochenberg. Its church is gone.
St Stephanus, first mentioned in 1141 under the bishopric of Worms, was pulled down in 1836, and Bishop Reinhard von Rüppurr had already called it doomed by its age in a document of 1 June 1522. The Protestant church came later. Built in 1722, it carries an onion tower over the village roofs, and the villagers had put up a town hall of their own around 1700.
The Kerb keeps its own rituals: a house-decorating competition on the Saturday, a procession on the Sunday and a wheelbarrow race on the Monday.
What is the history of Pfiffligheim?
Settlement here goes back three thousand years. Permanent occupation can be shown from about 1000 BC, and Celtic pit dwellings with their post holes turned up with plenty of pottery on the Donnersbergstraße above the Pfrimm. The village is named for a Frank.
Pephilo took possession of the ground around the year 500 and built his home on it, and the place enters the written record in 1068 as Phephilineheim. Two wars destroyed it completely. The Thirty Years' War and then the War of the Palatine Succession left so little that a count ordered in 1698, nine years after the second, found only thirty-three families.
It changed rulers three times in a century. A settlement between Elector Johann Wilhelm and his brother Bishop Franz Ludwig brought it to the Kurpfalz in 1705 under the Oberamt Alzey, France took the left bank in 1801, and the Grand Duchy of Hesse received the village in July 1816. Worms took it on 29 June 1898.
