Fuencarral existed as a town of its own before Madrid took it in, and a decree of November 10, 1950 folded the ancient municipality into the city. The annexation stuck. Later administration placed the barrio inside Valverde, one of the wards of the Fuencarral-El Pardo district of Madrid.
The record notes a founding year of 1982. What survives of the older town is the name it lent the whole northern district.
