What are the main landmarks in Echavacoiz?
Near the Venta Andrés, founded by Andrés Larranbebere, the Casas de Construcciones Barcos fill eleven entrances on the streets Virgen del Soto and San Raimundo. SDC Echavacóiz dates from 1973. Founded by neighbours as a sports and cultural society, it is one of the barrio's main meeting points.
From 1980 to 1999 the Ikastola Jaso, a cooperative of families, ran a school in the former Carmelite college on Avenida de Arostegui.
What is the history of Echavacoiz?
Until 1953 Echavacoiz was a concejo of the Cendea de Cizur; that year its people and land passed to Pamplona. Workers' housing followed. The Grupo Urdánoz, by the architect Ramón Urmeneta Ajarnaute, went up around 1954 as 20 H-shaped blocks, which gave every small flat windows on two sides.
The Casas del Catalán of 1956, on Avenida de Arostegui, housed the sawmill's workers, and Larraskuntzea, built in 1954 for the Inquinasa factory, has since made way for a green space.
Where is Echavacoiz?
Echavacoiz lies south-east of Barañáin, east of Zizur Mayor, and west of the University of Navarra, close to the Complejo Hospitalario de Navarra. Its oldest part is the Casas de la Vía. Echavacóiz Norte, the newest, sits next to Barañáin, and Vistabella takes the high ground behind the hospital.
