About Liipola

What are the main landmarks in Liipola?

There is little sightseeing within Liipola itself. The attractions sit north over the ridge: downtown Lahti, the Vesijärvi lakeshore, and the museums of the centre. Across the Salpausselkä esker the city's tone shifts from these southern residential streets, shared with Laune and Saksala, to the busier core.

What is the history of Liipola?

Liipola took its present shape as post-war Lahti grew. The city, chartered in 1905, spread south beyond the Salpausselkä ridge, and the regional capital of Päijät-Häme filled the ground below the esker with housing estates like this one and adjoining Laune.

Where is Liipola?

Liipola occupies the southern part of Lahti. Laune lies alongside it, with Saksala on the south-eastern side, and the long Salpausselkä esker rising just to the north between these districts and the city centre that crowns it.
