Where to stay in Vaufrège
Where visitors usually base themselves, and why.
Vaufrèges gathers around the last stretch of the route Léon Lachamp before the road leaves Marseille for the col de la Gineste. Houses sit at the foot of the hill. It is a quiet edge of the city rather than a base for seeing it.
About Vaufrège
What are the main landmarks in Vaufrège?
Kedge Business School stands in the quartier. There is little else built here of any size, and the hills around it kept television signals out until the 1990s.
What is the history of Vaufrège?
Vaufrèges was once a village of its own. Mazargues and Le Redon were the same before Marseille grew over them. The name is Provençal: Vau Frejo means cold valley, the same sense as the Frais-Vallon that lies in the quartier of la Rose. In 2009 a forest fire started by a military exercise at the camp de Carpiagne came close.
Where is Vaufrège?
Vaufrèges lies at the southeastern edge of Marseille, below the hills, where the route Léon Lachamp climbs towards the col de la Gineste. Large gardens surround the houses. The quartier is small.
