Broomfields, Bradford — Area Guide & Where to Stay

Broomfields is a historic district of Bradford, commercial ground now, holding the National Science and Media Museum and The Peace Museum.
About Broomfields

Where to stay in Broomfields
Each area has its own feel; here's who each one suits.
Broomfields trades on its museums rather than on beds. The district is almost wholly commercial ground, so the practical move is a room within reach of the National Science and Media Museum and a short walk in for Impressions Gallery and The Peace Museum. Hotel doors are few among the warehouses.
Eastbrook Hall and the warehouse blocks on the 1 Barkerend Road side give these streets their character, and anyone wanting more choice looks to Bradford's core alongside them.
About Broomfields
What are the main landmarks in Broomfields?
Museums cluster here. The National Science and Media Museum anchors the group, and The Peace Museum, Impressions Gallery, the Colour Experience, BD1 Gallery and the Bradford Police Museum sit within the same few streets. Office and warehouse names fill in the rest: Pennine House, Cresta House, Austral House, Devonshire House, York House and Lincolnshire House.
Glyde House keeps company with the Victoria Memorial and 1 Barkerend Road at the district's older margin.
What is the history of Broomfields?
Rural ground carried the name first. In 1840 Broomfields was still mainly fields on the edge of Bradford, and by 1880 it had become one of the most densely built districts in the town, crowded with houses and commercial premises. Slum clearance began in 1932, paired with commercial regeneration, and business use has held the ground since.
Eastbrook Hall, Fountain Hall and Church House survive from the older layer. Little of the crowded street pattern that once stood between them was kept.
Where is Broomfields?
The district covers the south eastern edge of Bradford, in West Yorkshire, England, packed tight where the city's commercial core runs out.
