Chelsea Harbour and Imperial Wharf hold what rooms Sands End has, both of them on the Thames side of the loop, both a walk from New King's Road along the district's northern edge. Wandsworth Bridge is the road out. Fulham carries the rest. You want Sands End for the water, for Chelsea Creek and the wharf frontage, rather than for the crossing to Chelsea Old Church and Carlyle's House on the far bank.

Chelsea Harbour and Imperial Wharf give Sands End its river frontage. The older names sit across the water. Chelsea Old Church, Carlyle's House and Lindsey House, Chelsea line the far bank, while Old Battersea House and St Mary's Church, Battersea stand on the reach that the loop of the River Thames wraps around.
St Dionis, Parsons Green keeps the parish name inland. Two more carry Chelsea addresses of their own, Stanley House and Allen Hall Seminary, and the Glaciarium is remembered there as well.
What is the history of Sands End?
Sands End belonged to the ancient parish of Fulham, in the former County of Middlesex. Wharves and industrial acres came later. Workers' cottages went up beside them, and the strip between the tidal Chelsea Creek and the old Peterborough estate turned to intensive re-development in the last quarter of the 20th century.
Some 300-year-old cottages survived it. Nineteenth-century streets still run behind Chelsea Harbour and Imperial Wharf, and the district answers to the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham rather than to Middlesex.
