Beds inside the blocks are limited, because most of the old stores hold eating and drinking places rather than hotels, so the wider supply lies east along the commercial streets. Pick it for a base close to the water, not for quiet.

About Ladadika
What are the main landmarks in Ladadika?
In Ladadika the streets are the attraction. Rows of two- and three-storey warehouses, their ochre and terracotta plaster and iron balconies intact, make up a protected architectural ensemble from the late Ottoman and early Greek city. The lanes of Katouni, Aigyptou, and Doxis frame small squares where the tavernas spill out.
Plateia Eleftherias adjoins the district on the waterfront, and the working quays of the Port of Thessaloníki close it off to the west.
What is the history of Ladadika?
Ladadika took its name from oil, ladi in Greek, and grew up as the olive-oil bazaar of Ottoman Thessaloníki, a run of warehouses where goods moved between the harbour and the market. The great fire of 1917 gutted the centre above it, yet the low port blocks came through largely intact. That is why the old fabric survives.
The quarter and its port lay at the heart of the city's Sephardic Jewish trade, and on the adjoining Plateia Eleftherias, in 1942, the occupying forces assembled the Jewish men of Thessaloníki for forced labour. Left to decay for decades, Ladadika was placed under architectural protection in the 1980s and its warehouses restored into an eating and drinking district.
Where is Ladadika?
Ladadika occupies the low ground just inland from the Port of Thessaloníki, at the western end of the city centre. The layout is a tight grid. Its lanes, Katouni, Aigyptou, and Doxis among them, run between the quay and the shopping streets, while Plateia Eleftherias opens onto the waterfront along the southern edge.
Aristotelous Square and the main commercial district lie a short walk east, and Ionos Dragoumi street marks the boundary toward the upper city.
