About Ahmedabad/New West Zone

Where to stay in Ahmedabad/New West Zone
Each area has its own feel; here's who each one suits.
Business travellers sleep here. The zone lines its beds along the SG Highway, the wide Sarkhej-Gandhinagar corridor that gathers the malls, offices and dining that draw visitors to this side of Ahmedabad, with Vastrapur and Bodakdev holding most of the upmarket rooms. Around Vastrapur Lake and the Indian Institute of Management, quieter hotels sit close to the science campuses.
Further out, Thaltej and Gota keep newer stays near the ring road. Rooms here favour reach over old-city charm.
About Ahmedabad/New West Zone
What are the main landmarks in Ahmedabad/New West Zone?
Sarkhej Roza gives the zone its deepest roots. This walled complex of tombs, mosque and stepped tank at Makarba dates from the fifteenth century, long before the western suburbs filled in around it. Newer draws crowd the SG Highway: the ISKCON Temple marks the Satellite Road crossing, while Gujarat Science City and the Vikram Sarabhai Space Exhibition pull families along Science City Road.
Vastrapur Lake, remade as Narsinh Mehta Lake, ties an evening promenade to the heart of the district.
What is the history of Ahmedabad/New West Zone?
The land came late to the city. For most of Ahmedabad's history this western fringe held villages such as Sarkhej and Makarba around the fifteenth-century Sarkhej Roza, with fields stretching to the Sabarmati's far bank. Growth turned outward when the Indian Institute of Management opened at Vastrapur in the nineteen-sixties, and the Sarkhej-Gandhinagar Highway drew offices, campuses and housing west of the older suburbs.
The zone was drawn to hold that spread.
Where is Ahmedabad/New West Zone?
The New West Zone spreads across Ahmedabad's outer western edge, running from Vastrapur and Bodakdev out along the SG Highway through Thaltej and Gota toward Sarkhej and the Gandhinagar road, well beyond the Sabarmati River.
