What are the main landmarks in Tsurumi-ku?

The ward keeps its past above ground. The shell midden of 鶴見神社境内貝塚 lies in the grounds of the old shrine, and the burial ground of 三ツ池古墳 rises beside the ponds of Mitsuike Park on the western slopes. Older still is the buried record.

Shell heaps such as Shōsenzukakaizuka mark where earlier settlers gathered along the shore, while the Kagetsu-en Velodrome carries the racing life of the Kagetsuen side toward the water.

What is the history of Tsurumi-ku?

People gathered here long before Yokohama had a port. Shell middens tell that story. The heaps of Shōsenzukakaizuka and the deposits at 鶴見神社境内貝塚 record settlers who lived off the shallows of this shore for generations before any city grew inland.
