Sükhbaatar took shape as Ulan Bator grew outward from its centre. The district was drawn as one of the capital's administrative divisions, carved from the northern reaches of the Mongolian city as its blocks and ministries filled the ground between the core and the surrounding slopes, sharing its borders with Bayanzürkh and Songino Khairkhan. It carries the name of a national hero.

Where is Sükhbaatar?
Sükhbaatar reaches north from the heart of Ulan Bator. The district covers roughly 208 square kilometres, running from the built-up core of the Mongolian capital out toward the hills that ring the city on the north, with Bayanzürkh bounding it to the east and Songino Khairkhan lying west. It climbs as it goes.
