Cabo San Lucas sits at the tip of the Baja California peninsula, and where you stay turns on how close you want to be to the harbour and the town centre. The old core gathers around the San Lucas Church and the iglesia de Guadalupe de Cabo San Lucas, a short walk from the water and the shops. Streets are compact here.
Larger hotels line the shore on either side, set back behind their own beaches. Beyond the centre, the resort strip runs along the coast toward San José del Cabo and the rest of Los Cabos, trading town life for space and sea views. These hotels favour a pool and a stretch of sand over the walk to the shops.
The town core keeps you closest to the harbour and the churches, while the strip keeps you closest to the open coast. Choose by whether you want the harbour or the beach at your door.

The site sat at the end of the long desert land, where ships rounding the point could find shelter and water. For a long time it stayed a small fishing and shipping place, far from the interior of Baja California Sur and cut off by the dry country behind it.
The sea did the carrying. Its role tracks the wider founding of the region. A landmark called Origin of The Californias marks the town's part in that early story.

How do you get to Cabo San Lucas?
Cabo San Lucas is reached mainly by air and by the coast road. The airport that serves Los Cabos lies toward San José del Cabo, a drive east along the shore from the town. By land, a highway runs north up the Baja California peninsula through Baja California Sur, the long route down the desert to the point.
Boats also work the harbour. Most visitors arrive through the Los Cabos airport and drive the coast west into Cabo San Lucas.
