Each area has its own feel; here's who each one suits.
The mission blocks come first. Rooms in the old centre put the Misión Estero de las Palmas de San José del Cabo Añuití and the Templo del Sagrado Corazón de Jesús de San José del Cabo within a few minutes on foot, and the streets around them stay quieter than the commercial half of the pair down the coast. The run through to May is when both Los Cabos towns take their arrivals from the United States and Canada, and a late booking in the centre usually turns into a room somewhere else entirely. The water is the other choice. Rooms out towards the shallow bay trade the church blocks for the Gulf of California frontage, and they suit anyone whose days run on the sand rather than through the plaza the mission left behind.
Cabo San Lucas is the third answer. It lies some 32 kilometres along the same shore to the south-west, holds the busier and more commercial share of Los Cabos, and works as a night or two inside a stay based here. Inland is plainer.
