Puerto Cancún is the gated marina quarter of Cancún, a grid of canal-front houses and condominium towers wrapped around a harbour and its private canals. The gates open off Avenida Bonampak. Circuito Marina rings the moorings, the Marina Town Center keeps its shops on interior lanes rather than a public street, and the beach club sits out on the Caribbean sand past the last of them.
If you want a berth, a golf course, and downtown Cancún a short drive west, this suits you better than the Boulevard Kukulcán hotel strip.

Puerto Cancún gathers its set pieces around the marina basin and the golf course the canals wind through. Muelle 7 juts into the canal. What is the history of Puerto Cancún?
Puerto Cancún began as a partnership between Fonatur, Mexico's National Trust Fund for Tourism Development, and the promoter Michael Eugene Kelly. The plan covered roughly 300 hectares of shore. Then the FBI arrived.
Kelly was arrested in December 2006, and in 2007 the Securities and Exchange Commission sued him over Universal Leases, a Cancún timeshare programme that had raised 428 million dollars. Work carried on without him. By 2010 the canals and lots were being advertised as a gated community.
Where is Puerto Cancún?
Puerto Cancún occupies the shore between Avenida Bonampak and the Caribbean Sea, at the point where Boulevard Kukulcán leaves downtown Cancún for the Hotel Zone.
