Where to stay in Heer
The right area depends on your trip — here's what each neighbourhood is best for.
Church towers mark the choice. A bed near Sint-Petrus' Bandenkerk puts the Oude Kerkstraat frontages and Huis Eyll within the same few streets, while Klooster Opveld and its neo-romanesque cloister chapel sit on the quieter convent side of the neighbourhood. Don Boscokerk anchors the newer housing.
Guests wanting the full range of Maastricht stock cross the Meuse into the rest of the city, and Scharn lies immediately alongside Heer for anyone who prefers the older village grain.

About Heer
What are the main landmarks in Heer?
Huis Eyll heads the list. Sint-Petrus' Bandenkerk serves as the parish church of the old village, while Don Boscokerk carries a later dedication and Klooster Opveld adds a covered walk with a neo-romanesque cloister chapel. The convent's 18th century wing faces its garden. 't Sonnehuijs and the protected frontage at Oude Kerkstraat 12 stand among the ordinary houses, and the Heilig Hartgrot marks a devotional corner.
Peter Debyeplein 15 and the Dipoolmoment complete the register.
What is the history of Heer?
Heer was once its own municipality. Until 1828 the municipality went by the name Heer en Keer, covering the villages of Heer and Scharn, and the whole of it was absorbed into Maastricht in 1970. The parish gathered around Sint-Petrus' Bandenkerk.
Huis Eyll and Klooster Opveld survive from the years when the settlement answered to itself rather than to the city across the Meuse, and Don Boscokerk belongs to the period after.
