About Wolder

Where to stay in Wolder
Not every neighbourhood fits every trip — here's what each one is good for.
You cannot book a room in Wolder. What Wolder has is streets, Tongerseweg, Cannerweg and Jekermolenweg, carrying listed houses, three churches and the Trichter College, but no cluster of hotels, so the older core of Maastricht stays the practical base. Visitors come out for the churches and the Roman villa Maastricht-Louwberg.
Those based here gain quiet and a straight road in.
About Wolder
What are the main landmarks in Wolder?
Three churches serve Wolder. Sint-Petrus-en-Pauluskerk, Sint-Jozefkerk and San Salvatorkerk stand within the same neighbourhood, and the Trichter College adds a school building to the register alongside them. Older ground lies under the houses: the Roman villa Maastricht-Louwberg is the earliest thing recorded here, a rural estate site from long before the streets took their present shape.
Protected houses account for the rest, numbered along Tongerseweg, Cannerweg and Jekermolenweg.
What is the history of Wolder?
The Romans got here first. A villa at Maastricht-Louwberg puts a working rural estate on this ground centuries before Wolder had a name, and the site remains the neighbourhood's deepest layer of record. Churches came later, three of them: Sint-Petrus-en-Pauluskerk, Sint-Jozefkerk and San Salvatorkerk.
Along the Tongerseweg and the Cannerweg the house numbers that carry monument status mark where the built-up strip settled, and the Trichter College stands among them as the neighbourhood's institutional building. Jekermolenweg keeps its own listed pair.
Where is Wolder?
Wolder covers the ground crossed by the Tongerseweg, the Cannerweg and the Jekermolenweg, three named roads inside the Maastricht city limits.
