Lahore is the honest first answer. Shekhupura sits about 38 km northwest of it, close enough that a room in the larger city serves anyone whose only business here is Hiran Minar, and the run out and back fits comfortably into a day. Distances here are modest.
The city is not built for visitors. It works as an industrial centre and as the headquarters of Sheikhupura District, so its rooms are pitched at contractors and officials rather than at anyone on holiday. Staying in Shekhupura makes sense for work.
Anyone with days to spend inside the district, or with reasons to be out toward Sialkot, Gujranwala, Nankana Sahib or Kasur, saves the daily commute from Lahore by taking a bed in the city itself. Qila Sheikhupura marks the old core. Around it lies the part of town with the shortest walks to the markets and the district offices, while the industrial belt on the outskirts is closer to the works than to anything a traveller would want in the evening.

What is the climate of Shekhupura?
Summer dominates Shekhupura's year. Shekhupura shares the subtropical regime of the Punjab country around Lahore, which means a long severe summer through the middle of the year and a brief cool stretch at either end of it. Hiran Minar is best seen early.
The walk out to the monument, like most of what a visitor does here, is easier in the first hours of the day than in the afternoon that follows.
How do you get to Shekhupura?
Lahore is the arrival point for most. From there the run to Shekhupura covers about 38 km to the northwest, a short enough distance that the city functions as a satellite of the larger one and the traffic between them is constant. Roads reach the neighbours too.
Connections run out toward Sialkot, Gujranwala, Nankana Sahib and Kasur, and Hiran Minar is reached from the city by the same local roads rather than by any dedicated route.
