Gulberg Town dates to a single reform. It was drawn as a constituent town of Karachi in 2001, when the city's local-government ordinance grouped older localities such as Karimabad, Azizabad, and Samanabad into one administrative unit around Water Pump Chowrangi. The name gathered them together.
Those neighbourhoods, many laid on planned residential grids beside the Federal B. Area, kept their bazaars and street patterns after the town took its present shape.
