The district borders landmarks. Mazar-e-Quaid, the domed marble mausoleum that draws pilgrims and visitors from across Karachi, rises on the high ground just west of PECHS and shapes the whole quarter's northern skyline. What is the history of PECHS?
PECHS grew from a cooperative venture. The Pakistan Employees Cooperative Housing Society laid out the district as planned housing for salaried workers of Karachi, dividing the ground into numbered blocks that still order its streets. The layout preceded the buildings.
As the mausoleum of Mazar-e-Quaid took shape on the neighbouring rise, the surrounding blocks filled with homes, and the Monument to Christ the King already stood among the older institutions to the south.
