About Gulistan-e-Jauhar

What are the main landmarks in Gulistan-e-Jauhar?

Karachi Safari Park anchors the district. It spreads over hills at the township's northern rim. Laid out as a drive-through park rather than a walled zoo, the grounds carry lion and bear enclosures, a chairlift over the slope and boating lakes that draw weekend crowds in from across Karachi.

The park marks the boundary that Gulistan-e-Jauhar shares with Gulshan-e-Iqbal. Beyond it the township thins into open ground toward Malir.

What is the history of Gulistan-e-Jauhar?

Gulistan-e-Jauhar rose as a planned expansion on the eastern flank of Karachi. Open scrub gave way to grids. As the city pushed outward from its older core, surveyors carved the township into numbered blocks and phases that filled with housing schemes, apartment towers and university campuses over a single generation.

It grew alongside the neighbouring scheme of Gulshan-e-Iqbal. Karachi Safari Park had already claimed the hills to the north before the blocks reached them.

Where is Gulistan-e-Jauhar?

Gulistan-e-Jauhar spreads east of central Karachi across low ground that climbs to the hills of Karachi Safari Park, with Gulshan-e-Iqbal to its west and Malir off to the south-east. The grid runs to the ridge.
