Śródmieście took shape as Wrocław's Downtown borough, the central-eastern ground the wider city grew around. The Wrocław Cathedral on Ostrów Tumski marks the medieval start, while Centennial Hall, raised in 1913 and later listed by UNESCO, shows the district's later ambition. Its churches and bridges hold the record of German and Polish Wrocław alike.

Where is Śródmieście?
Śródmieście spreads over the flat ground east and south of Wrocław's Old Town, threaded by the Oder and its side channels. The Wrocław Cathedral rises on the island of Ostrów Tumski at its northern edge. Channels split the district.
