Mariastaden is a quarter of homes. Each block is drawn by a different firm of architects, which gives the streets a varied look, and the old hospital buildings of Maria Park now hold homes, offices and schools. Maria Station lies at the district's eastern end.

What are the main landmarks in Mariastaden?
Maria Park is the heart of the district. The grounds of the former S:ta Maria mental hospital cover about 45 hectares, and its old main buildings, with some 50,000 square metres of floor space, now house homes, offices and schools. Sankt Andreas kyrka stands to the west.
Rainwater is handled on the spot, gathered in ditches and ponds, and what the ground does not take runs on to the Öresund.

Building began in the late 1990s. The district still grows in stages. Maria Park came first, when the old S:ta Maria mental hospital was given new uses, and Maria Trädgårdsstad, north of the hospital grounds, was the first true expansion area.

Mariastaden lies in northern Helsingborg, on ground once called Senderöd. It is planned to stretch from the old hospital grounds in the west to Maria Station in the east, and Maria Trädgårdsstad, a garden city of low villas, lies directly north of the hospital area. It belongs to Helsingborgs kommun, in Skåne County.
