Råtorp, Karlstad — Area Guide & Where to Stay

Råtorp is a north-western district of Karlstad in western Sweden, home to the city's sports arenas.

About Råtorp

Where to stay in Råtorp

Not every neighbourhood fits every trip — here's what each one is good for.

Stay here for the arenas. Råtorp suits travellers heading to a match or event at the Löfbergs Arena, the Eva Lisa Holtz Arena or the Sola Arena, with the grounds on your doorstep in north-western Karlstad. If you would rather be nearer the centre and the shops, inner districts like Herrhagen and Våxnäs put you closer in.

About Råtorp

What are the main landmarks in Råtorp?

Sport defines the quarter. Råtorp holds the Löfbergs Arena, the Eva Lisa Holtz Arena and the Sola Arena, the cluster of grounds where much of north-western Karlstad's match-day life plays out. Inner districts such as Herrhagen and Kroppkärr lie back toward the city centre, but the arenas keep crowds coming out this way.

What is the history of Råtorp?

The district carries the joined name Älvåker och Råtorp, a sign of two older settlements grown together as Karlstad expanded north-westward. Over time the city pushed its outer quarters out past inner districts such as Våxnäs, and the open ground here on the north-western edge was given over to large sports grounds rather than dense housing. The fields became arenas.

The name kept both halves.

Where is Råtorp?

It sits on the city's north-western flank. Råtorp, paired in its formal name as Älvåker och Råtorp, lies in north-western Karlstad, out beyond inner quarters like Herrhagen and Våxnäs and the eastern district of Kroppkärr. The wider setting is western Sweden.
