Voznesenka is a historic quarter rather than a lodging market, so a room here is a central Zaporizhzhya room inside Voznesenivskyi Raion. Since February 2022 the full-scale Russian invasion has put Zaporizhzhya close to the fighting, and foreign ministries counsel against any travel to the country. Those who still come are working, and the quarter suits them because the oblast council, the oblast administration, and the city council all sit in the raion it centres.

What are the main landmarks in Voznesenka?
Voznesenka keeps almost nothing of the village standing, so its landmarks are addresses rather than buildings. Dmytra Apukhtina Street climbs the hill the first Cossack settlers picked. The Zaporizhzhia television tower, raised in 1959, marks that high ground from across the city.
The wooden Ascension church that gave the quarter its name has vanished so completely that archaeologists went back to old maps in 2022 to look for its site and for the graveyards around it. Voznesenivskyi Park carries the name on.
What is the history of Voznesenka?
Voznesenka traces itself to 1596, when Cossacks of Severyn Nalyvaiko's broken rising crossed to the Dnieper's left bank and took a nameless hill. A rival account gives the founder as Ivan Neskreba, and the place answered to Neskrebivka until it was made a military sloboda and renamed in 1795. Old men told the folklorist Yakiv Novytskyi it began as thirteen huts.
Some came from the Khortytsia winter camps. Taras Shevchenko stopped with the Bulakh family here in 1843 on his way to Khortytsia. Dmytro Yavornytsky found a volost, a church, and a school in 1888.
Zaporizhzhya absorbed it, with Kichkas and Novomykolaivka, in 1927.
