Kimyogarlar keeps no hotel quarter of its own, so a stay here means a room in Samarkand. The beds are 12 km east. The city puts them around the Registan and the lanes of the old town, well outside this settlement, and none of that trade has reached the canal-side streets out here.
What Kimyogarlar gives a visitor is position rather than a room key. The Samarkand Ring Road runs down the western side and the Dargom canal crosses the south, so the works, the market and the industrial branch to Marokand are all within a short walk. If you have come for the plants on Zavodskaya rather than the monuments, this is the ground to wake on.

What are the main landmarks in Kimyogarlar?
The Irtyshar hydroelectric station is the landmark of Kimyogarlar, on the Dargom canal at the southern edge of the settlement. Two units have turned there since the early 1960s, part of the Samarkand cascade of stations that the canal drives on its way down from the Zarafshon. Zavodskaya is the spine.
The chemical works that named the place stand along it, beside the expanded-clay and asphalt plants. The market, the polyclinic and the regional psychiatric hospital lie east of it, off Narpay street. What visitors come to the region for is 12 km away: the Registan, Gur-e Amir and Shah-i-Zinda stand in old Samarkand, not here.
What is the history of Kimyogarlar?
Kimyogarlar was laid out around a superphosphate plant and took urban-type status in 1952. Its first name was the plant's. The settlement answered to Superfosfatny until the 1990s, and the junction its freight ran to was called Superfosfatnaya before that station took the name Marokand.
A broad-gauge industrial branch was cut west to it, tying the works into the lines toward Jizzakh, Karshi and Navoi. The Irtyshar hydroelectric station on the Dargom canal came at the turn of the 1960s, and the place was renamed in the 1990s for its chemists, which is what Kimyogarlar means in Uzbek.
Where is Kimyogarlar?
Kimyogarlar lies west of Samarkand between the Samarkand Ring Road and the Dargom canal, with Nayman to the north and Hishrau upstream to the southeast.
