Bình Tân, Ho Chi Minh City — Area Guide & Where to Stay

Bình Tân is an outer western district of Ho Chi Minh City, built up around the Miền Tây Bus Station at An Lạc.

About Bình Tân

Where to stay in Bình Tân

Each area has its own feel; here's who each one suits.

Base yourself around the western gateway. Most rooms in Bình Tân gather near the Miền Tây Bus Station and the long run of Kinh Dương Vương, where budget hotels and serviced flats trade the tourist core of Ho Chi Minh City for cheaper beds and fast onward coaches toward the Mekong Delta. Quieter guesthouses sit back in An Lạc and Bình Trị Đông.

If you want early coaches over sightseeing, this side of the district suits you. The bus station sets the pace.

About Bình Tân

What are the main landmarks in Bình Tân?

The bus station is the headline. Miền Tây Bus Station on Kinh Dương Vương sends coaches west across the whole delta, and its forecourt is the busiest single point in Bình Tân, feeding the markets and workshops that ring An Lạc. Factories fill the west.

Tân Tạo Industrial Park spreads its sheds and yards near the edge with Bình Chánh, giving this corner of Ho Chi Minh City a working, industrial face rather than a sightseeing one.

What is the history of Bình Tân?

Bình Tân was carved out in 2003. The district was assembled from the old communes of Bình Hưng Hòa, Bình Trị Đông and Tân Tạo, together with An Lạc, cut away from the surrounding Bình Chánh so that a fast-filling western fringe of Ho Chi Minh City could stand on its own. Growth came with the road.

National Route 1 and the coaches of the Miền Tây Bus Station pulled workshops and worker housing out along the western approaches.

Where is Bình Tân?

Bình Tân covers a flat, low tropical wedge of about fifty-two square kilometres on the western rim of Ho Chi Minh City, edged by Tân Phú and District 6 to the east and by Bình Chánh to the west.
