The city runs along its coast.
What is Phan Thiết known for?
Four urban coastal wards carry the built shore from Suối Nước beach in the northeast toward cape Kê Gà in the southwest, while the bulk of Phan Thiết keeps to a centre held back from the water. Bình Thuận Province had its capital here. Sân vận động Phan Thiết carries the city's name among its public grounds, and the shape of the place has been set since the town was established in 1898.
What are the main landmarks in Phan Thiết?
One ground carries the city's name. Sân vận động Phan Thiết stands as the named landmark here, and the rest of what draws attention is coast: the four urban coastal wards, the sand at Suối Nước beach, and the headland at cape Kê Gà. Water frames both ends.
Suối Nước marks the northeast limit of the built shore and Kê Gà closes it in the southwest, with the centre of Phan Thiết set back from the water between them.
What is the history of Phan Thiết?
Phan Thiết dates from 1898. The town established in that year grew as the seat of Bình Thuận Province, and the provincial role concentrated administration, trade, and building in a centre kept back from the beaches. Administration outlived the title.
Bình Thuận Province no longer counts the city as its capital, and Phan Thiết has since been placed within Lâm Đồng, though the weight of the place stays where the provincial centre first grew. The coast filled later. Four urban coastal wards extend the city from Suối Nước beach in the northeast toward cape Kê Gà in the southwest, so the built ground reaches far past the old core in a thin line along the water.
Most of the city still keeps to that core. The wards along the shore hold the smaller share of the whole, and a dense inland centre with a long coastal fringe is the shape Phan Thiết has carried through its modern growth. Between them the wards face open water.
Suối Nước and Kê Gà mark the two ends of that reach, and Sân vận động Phan Thiết sits among the public grounds the city built as it spread.
Where is Phan Thiết?
The water sets the city's limits. Phan Thiết holds a stretch of the southeast coast within Vietnam, its four urban coastal wards running from Suối Nước beach in the northeast toward cape Kê Gà in the southwest, with the main body of the city held back from the shore. Bình Thuận lies around it.
Lâm Đồng takes the city in the order of provinces above, while the ground between Suối Nước and Kê Gà carries nearly all of the coastal building.
What is the climate of Phan Thiết?
The sea rules the year here. Phan Thiết lies open to the water along its whole front, so the air over the wards between Suối Nước and Kê Gà stays under the sea's influence rather than the inland ground's. Little shelter stands between.
Cape Kê Gà and the sand at Suối Nước beach take the same weather off the water, and the built shore between them shares one coastal pattern from end to end.
How do you get to Phan Thiết?
Everything arrives through the centre. Phan Thiết keeps the city's transport business inland of the water, and the coastal wards are reached from it along the shore route that runs northeast to Suối Nước beach and southwest toward cape Kê Gà. Distance grows along that line.
Bình Thuận and Lâm Đồng lie behind the city, and the way inland leaves the coast for the province instead of following the water.
