What is the history of Dhaka/Gulshan-Banani?
Planners drew this quarter from open ground. Gulshan Model Town took shape from farmland at the start of the 1960s, and Gulshan Thana was formally constituted in 1972 as embassies began moving out from the older core of Dhaka. Banani split away later.
Once its own Banani Thana was set up, the paired names Gulshan and Banani stuck to describe the shared diplomatic and commercial belt.
