What is the history of Brederode?
The name is borrowed, not local. Brederode answers to Hendrik van Brederode, who lived from 1531 to 1568, and the wijk has kept his name rather than one taken from its own ground. Boundaries did the rest of the shaping: the Amerikalei on the city side and the Singel on the outer, with Harmonie and Markgrave closing the remaining edges.
