Donk, Antwerp — Area Guide & Where to Stay

Donk, also Ekeren-Donk, is a housing quarter of the Ekeren district in north-eastern Antwerp, its heritage list made almost wholly of houses.
About Donk

Where to stay in Donk
Not every neighbourhood fits every trip — here's what each one is good for.
The Veltwijcklaan carries no hotel sign. Ekeren keeps almost nothing in the way of beds, so the practical base for a night here is an Antwerp room, with the ride out to Donk short and direct. Longer stays work better.
A rented house on the Prinshoeveweg or off the Kapelsesteenweg puts the Ekeren parishes, the local shops and a straight road into Antwerp within easy reach.
About Donk
What are the main landmarks in Donk?
The record here is a record of houses. Ekeren's protected list runs through Woning Wuyts, Woning Rens and Huis Onze Wensch, past the gardener's cottage at Geestenspoor 89 and a burgerwoning on the Prinshoeveweg, to a late-modern architect's house on the Herautenlaan. Churches punctuate it.
Sint-Lambertuskerk holds the old parish, Onze-Lieve-Vrouw van Zeven Smartenkerk and Sint-Theresia van het Kind Jezuskerk serve the later streets, and a small Mariakapel marks a roadside. The Monument voor de bemanning van de Lancaster ED810 breaks the pattern, naming an aircrew instead of an architect.
What is the history of Donk?
Donk grew by house rows. The Ekeren list moves from the low village houses at Kapelsesteenweg, through workers' cottages on the Pastoor Goetschalckxstraat, to art-deco fronts on the Veltwijcklaan and a postmodern house on the Laar. Parishes followed the building.
Sint-Theresia van het Kind Jezuskerk carries a dedication no medieval parish could have used, Heilig Hart van Jezuskerk belongs to the same later wave, and Sint-Lambertuskerk carries the oldest dedication of the three. Names like Woning Coerkamp and Woning De Ridder read as families, not institutions.
Where is Donk?
Donk belongs to the Ekeren district on the north-eastern side of Antwerp, and Ekeren itself lies in the north-west of Antwerp province.
