Kievitwijk fills the ground immediately behind Antwerpen-Centraal, so a room in the quarter puts the platforms and the concourse within a few minutes on foot rather than a ride across Antwerp. The blocks are tall and modern, built for offices rather than sightseeing.
Walk through to the western exit and the old streets toward Onze-Lieve-Vrouwekathedraal open up. Antwerp Zoo shares the station's flank.

No monument stands in Kievitwijk itself. The station is the landmark: Antwerpen-Centraal backs directly onto these streets, and its platforms carry the traffic that gives the quarter its offices, its hotels and its reason to exist. Antwerp Zoo holds the ground on the station's other side.
Everything older lies west. Onze-Lieve-Vrouwekathedraal, Rubenshuis and Museum Plantin-Moretus stand in the old core, with Museum aan de Stroom and Het Steen further out toward the water.
What is the history of Kievitwijk?
The name is unofficial. Kievitwijk marks no administrative boundary in Antwerp; it is what people call the ground behind Antwerpen-Centraal, and the quarter took its shape from the tracks rather than from any parish or gate. Offices came to the back of the platforms.
Towers and hotels filled in later. That sequence leaves the quarter reading far younger than the streets around Onze-Lieve-Vrouwekathedraal, where Antwerp's older fabric still holds.
