What are the main landmarks in Nieuw Zuid?

The set pieces sit just outside. Zuid-Museum, the quarter's neighbour to the north, holds the Royal Museum of Fine Arts Antwerp, M HKA and FOMU Photo Museum Antwerp within a walk of the newest streets. Further north again, the old centre gathers Onze-Lieve-Vrouwekathedraal, Rubenshuis, Museum Plantin-Moretus and Het Steen on the same bank of the Schelde.

None of that stands inside Nieuw Zuid, which is why the quarter reads as a base rather than a sight in itself.

What is the history of Nieuw Zuid?

This ground came late to the city. Work on the 20-hectare quarter began in earnest around 2014, which places Nieuw Zuid among the youngest ground in Antwerp and gives it a street plan drawn in one go rather than accumulated. The Zuid-Museum streets beside it were laid out generations earlier.

That gap shows in the scale of the buildings, in the width of the streets, and in how sharply the two quarters change at their shared edge.

Where is Nieuw Zuid?

The Schelde runs along its western side. Nieuw Zuid occupies 20 hectares of river bank in the south of Antwerp, with Zuid-Museum immediately to the north.
