Colônia Terra Nova is residential ground laid out in lots rather than around a hotel street, and it divides into Terra Nova I, II and III, with the conjunto Viver Melhor 4 and the loteamentos Vale da Felicidade and Recreio Canaã filling in between them. Buses do the connecting work.
Eucatur Transportes Coletivos, Líder transporte and Vega Transporte run the routes into the Zona Norte, so anyone with business out here books a room in the city and rides north to it.

What are the main landmarks in Colônia Terra Nova?
The church came before the streetscape. Plots were kept back for public use when the bairro was laid out, most of them for Catholic churches, and the one that mattered was Nossa Senhora do Rosário, consecrated in 1989. It ran the catechism and paid for improvements, tutoring schools among them, for pupils who had been travelling to other bairros to study.
Evangelical churches followed in number. Beyond the church the marker is the name itself, and the word colônia in it is the last trace of the farm ground the bairro was cut from, since the fields went under lots long ago.
What is the history of Colônia Terra Nova?
The land was taken, not granted. Colônia Terra Nova began with land invasions around 1988, and its first settlers came up from the Nordeste looking for work in the Zona Franca de Manaus, most of them out of neighbouring Novo Israel. Others arrived from Compensa, unable to stay on there.
When the lots were marked out ground was held back for public buildings, mainly Catholic churches, and Nossa Senhora do Rosário went up the following year, in 1989. Terra Nova I, II and III took shape as the lots sold, and the schools the church paid for spared pupils the trip to Monte das Oliveiras and Cidade Nova.
