São Raimundo is residential ground on the western side of Manaus, and a stay here is a stay away from the centre. Three bus companies serve it: Via Verde Transportes Coletivos runs lines 100 and 101 from the bairro itself, Viação São Pedro the 129 to Santo Agostinho, and Expresso Coroado the 002 Interbairros. Lines 110 and 112 arrive from Compensa 2 and Santo Antônio.

The parish of São Raimundo gave the bairro its name, and its tombo book carries the early record. The Seminário São José held the land before any of it was built on. Sul América keeps its headquarters here.
What is the history of São Raimundo?
The state government gave the land to the Seminário São José in 1849, and it passed into the church's patrimony. Bishop Dom Lourenço da Costa Aguiar then parcelled part of it so that poorer families could build the first houses, paying a monthly foro to the diocese. Belmiro Bernardo da Costa administered and collected it.
The debts took about thirty years to clear.
