Coal Harbour began as water, not as streets. The name belonged first to the section of Burrard Inlet reaching between the Downtown Peninsula and Brockton Point, and only later attached itself to the neighbourhood built along the adjacent shoreline. Stanley Park closes the far side.
That two-stage naming is the whole of what the record fixes about the place, since the inlet carried the label long before any block of the Vancouver neighbourhood claimed it.
