What is the history of Davie Village?
Davie Street carries a premier's name. The street, and by extension the Village around it, honours a premier of British Columbia who held office from 1887 to 1889, and his brother Theodore Davie followed him into the same post from 1892 to 1895. Vancouver's West End frames the street.
The gay village identity attached later, layering a social history onto a street name that had already been fixed by nineteenth-century provincial politics.
