What is the history of East York?
The township came first. East York was carved out as a separate municipality in 1924, when the growing suburbs east of the Don River split from the old York township that ringed early Toronto. Brick bungalows filled the grid through the decades that followed.
Waves of Macedonian and Bulgarian settlers gave the borough the congregations behind St. Clement of Ohrid Macedonian Orthodox Cathedral, and in 1998 East York merged into the amalgamated city of Toronto within Ontario.
