What is the history of Regent Park?
The late 1940s set the shape. Regent Park went up then as a public housing project under Toronto Community Housing, and the streets standing on the ground before it, a substantial part of Cabbagetown, were razed to clear the site. All 69 acres went to social housing.
The Cabbagetown name has since attached to the historical streets left beyond Gerrard Street East and Parliament Street, which took a different course from the 1960s and 1970s onward, while the project itself has been through redevelopment.
