Howard Park was the earlier name. Most of the ground called Roncesvalles lay within the villages of Parkdale and Brockton before Toronto annexed it in the 1880s, and the record puts the founding of the neighbourhood at 1890. The street came to carry the name.
Roncesvalles Avenue runs the spine from King and Queen Streets to Dundas Street West, and the shorthand Roncesvalles Village, or Roncy Village, followed the avenue rather than any older village boundary.
