What are the main landmarks in Liangjiang New Area?

The Jiangbeizui CBD anchors the skyline. Its cluster of finance towers rises on the Yangtze bank at the point where the Jialing empties in, directly opposite the older Jiefangbei core, and the riverside promenade below draws walkers at dusk. Out in Yubei, Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport handles the region's flights, while the Lianglu-Cuntan bonded port ran as China's first inland customs zone.

The exhibition halls sit apart. At Yuelai New City the Chongqing International Expo Center spreads across the largest fairground in western China, its saw-tooth roofs pairing with the Yuelai International Convention Center to host the trade shows that fill the area's calendar.

What is the history of Liangjiang New Area?

This is young ground. The State Council approved Liangjiang New Area in 2010, carving a single development zone out of land in Jiangbei, Yubei and Beibei to become the third state-level sub-provincial area after Shanghai's Pudong and Tianjin's Binhai. It was the first such zone set inland rather than on the coast.

The plan pulled the map north. Where paddies and river towns had spread between the Yangtze and the Jialing, planners raised the Jiangbeizui CBD, the Lianglu-Cuntan bonded port and the Yuelai fairgrounds, folding scattered subdistricts into one seat and turning this bend of Chongqing into its factory, finance and exhibition front.

Where is Liangjiang New Area?

Liangjiang New Area covers about 1,360 square kilometres of subtropical hill country in Chongqing's urban core, taking its name from the two rivers that frame it: it lies north of the Yangtze and east of the Jialing, spanning parts of Jiangbei, Yubei and Beibei.
