Oberreut sits a couple of kilometres south-west of the middle of Karlsruhe, south of the B 10 and reached from it or from the A 5. It divides into two halves by design. The Waldlage was built first against the woods, the Feldlage came afterwards across the open ground, and the district has been extended in stages ever since.

What are the main landmarks in Oberreut?
There is no old core to Oberreut, because there was nothing here before the plan. The district was laid out on a hundred hectares of the Bulach Gemarkung as a settlement for some twelve thousand people, and what marks it are the phases of that building rather than any single structure. Woods edge the Waldlage.

What is the history of Oberreut?
Oberreut was built to answer a housing shortage, following the general development plan of 1926 known as the Schneiderplan, and the first houses were occupied in the summer of 1964. It filled faster than intended. When the Waldlage was finished in 1970 it held some five thousand seven hundred people rather than the four thousand two hundred planned, and the Feldlage was then laid out in three stages, adopted in 1969, 1980, and 1990.
Where is Oberreut?
Oberreut lies south-west of the centre of Karlsruhe and south of the B 10, on ground that belonged to Bulach before the plan took it. The A 5 passes west. Its two halves, the wooded Waldlage and the open Feldlage, are the district's only real internal division.
