About Lichtenberg
What are the main landmarks in Lichtenberg?
The Dorfkirche Lichtenberg on the Loeperplatz was built in the second half of the 13th century, and the old village core around it is still the historic centre of the borough. The Rathaus Lichtenberg is a neo-Gothic brick building of 1898. It is still the borough's town hall.

What is the history of Lichtenberg?
Lichtenberg was founded as a village around 1230 and first named in a deed of 1288. Berlin bought it in 1391. In the late 18th century wealthy Berliners built country houses here, General von Möllendorff among them, and the village became a favourite outing.
Fires from 1833 swept away the old farmsteads. Industry then multiplied its population, and Lichtenberg was granted town rights in 1907 before it joined Greater Berlin in 1920.
